Another damn idea to ‘tear her heart out’!
Space Florida is promoting aerospace in Florida to lure commercial launches. They are proposing to build a launch complex (Shiloh launch complex) located north of the existing Kennedy Space Center and the Merritt Island Wildlife refuge on the East Coast of Florida.
The proposed area is of very environmental and historical importance. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, it is the home of 18 federally listed endangered or threatened species, 31 families of federally threatened Florida shrub jay families, Gopher tortoises, you name it.
It is also a sugar plantation that was built in the 1760’s, has Indian mounds and middens and is a fishing heaven.
Besides, building another launch pad right at the Indian River Lagoon, which is already impacted by all the buildings and pollution is not a good idea.
