Sorry it's been so long everyone.....life has been catching up with me the last few months, but we were able to make it to the Lincoln theater for the show. Didn't get a set list to share but the show was great. They played a little from each album. The encore was sun is shining down and on fire. It never fails to amaze me how they seem to be better with each show. Can't wait till the next time.

Morning Mrs. Abner!  Thanks for the review! I haven't heard The Sun Is Shining Down in quite sometime, always an emotional song.

Been  out of the loop for a li'l while at the boards too.

They sure rocked it out last night at the Lincoln.  Started with Brighter Days and the gig got brighter after that.

Haven't seen these guys in a few years due to me simply missing them when they would be in town and I would not be in town, etc, but wow what a different level from a few years ago.

I would always catch them whenever in town, so this is my first show in a while.  Well, they are much better as a band now than they had been in years past and that's not a knock on the band at all. They just seem more locked in, the musicianship is tighter (but not too tight), and the setlist flowed really well.

Brighter Days is a great opener.

They played 7 songs from the new record, Hide and Seek, the title track, The Sweetest Thing, Slow Hot and Sweaty, Hottest Spot in Hell, Beautiful World and King Hummingbird. I am pretty sure that is right.

The rest was a mix of the Lochloosa material (my favorite record), a few off the first record (Air and Ho Cake) which are always good live, and a few like War, Sun is Shining Down and Country Ghetto off the CG record.  No Mississippi, though!  D'oh!

Sun is Shining Down and On Fire closed it out.  The latter is obviously a crowd pleaser.

No Tupelo Honey cover which would have made it even better.

The horn section is really a great bonus on the new material and I had no idea JJ can now reel off some well timed leads on guitar. Well done!

All in all, I seriously think it was the best show in the many I have seen from them.

Ponderosa opened and they were interesting.  Sort of a mix between Gov't Mule and maybe Kings of Leon.

Let me tell you: I brought a couple of virgins along with me who wouldn't normally ever have taken on a chance on a band like this on a school night and they loved it.  I knew they would because of how easy it is to get into the material as a first timer.  It's just infectious.   Good crowd, too.  Actually, very good for a weeknight in Raleigh.  No way there was a better live show within a 2 hour radius of Raleigh last evening.

Great show, they were really on top of it last night! For as many times as we've seen them, I really enjoyed the ebb and flow of this particular setlist. The Sun is Shining Down was a great surprise, as we didn't recall hearing that one live before (and like many other people here, it's one of my very favorite songs of all time).

One thing I couldn't help but wonder is if the girl who was jumping up on the stage was affiliated with this board in any way

On a side note, I enjoyed Ponderosa too. Orfom explained their vibe quite well.

I think it's funny she was escorted out and then re-appeared from behind the stage again.

No not me. I only dance on top of pool tables, bars and chairs. Though I'd go on stage if asked. That girl was not asked to come up, but was guided off stage as promptly as possible.

Hmmmm...light blue top...probly a little drunk...I think I love her too bonghit and I wasn't there!!

More to the point tho, great to hear from the abners and that y'all got to escape life for a night to see the guys.

Thanks for coming on with your comments too Orfom. He opened with BD the first nite at Skippers last week and the first encore was Sun is Shining on the 2nd night. Can't hardly beat that. And the On Fire encore is jaw dropping, head bobbing, ass shaking, feet moving, bad ass and a bunch more. I'da never thought of it as an encore song til they changed it up last year, especially the end---OMG---and then I was blowed away.

Yes indeed it's a tighter sound and larger with the addition of the horns and all, a little more rock and roll with Trube on guitar too. And yeah man over the last 5 years it's amazing how much JJ has progressed on the guitar. He had already gained more talent before he moved the keyboard aside a couple years ago and has made big leaps ever since. He can play.

Never interrupt a game of pool

Some people take their pool playing too seriously.  Just like never slide down a bowling alley lane like a slip'n'slide.

While someone else is bowling anyway. If it's your own lane, it's fair game.
(Just make sure that the lane wood is in good shape, because splinters can be an issue in those shoddily maintained bowling alleys.)

I thought you had better manners than that, sir.

(Why does she get to dance on your pool table and I don't?! )
