JJ's hinted in public over the past few months that we could might expect a new record this year. When the news of the hiatus came out several weeks back I remember Sunshine, for one, being optimistic that they would be working on it during that time. Being the pessimistic curmudgeon that I am, I suggested that perhaps they would not. She were right (dammit). JJ told me, during Jam cruise, that indeed it's being worked on and that we can expect it out this summer--probly June or July. They'd not yet started recording but he expected it to start soon. He wouldn't say the name of the record cause he said he's not 100% sure on it. I asked him if King Hummingbird would be on it and he said 90% yes. I plum forgot to ask him if he'd tell me what any of the songs were. (HEY! We wuz drinking and people all around us was, was, well we started to feel funny after awhile just breathing in what they wuz doing.) It is really cool to hear, and see, him talk about the evolution of his recording career. He explains, with no holds barred, that Blackwater was a mess from a production standpoint. He said he didn't really know what he was doing and that thankfully Dan Prothero made it come out the way it did. But it was pieced together with edits from numerous studio sessions and he said he had no idea what it was going to sound like until it was done. Jump ahead to Orange Blossoms and he said it was just the opposite. What he did for it, and has pretty much completed for the upcoming album, was to play out and record the parts for all the instruments at his home studio. Then he rents studio session time at the same place in St. Aug. that's done all the others, and schedules to bring the other musicians one or 2 at at time to record their parts. Then Dan does his job. Let's see, what else? Hmmmm...well, JJ said that he has more than a records worth ready to go. That's cause he hasn't decided for sure which way he's going. (I really shoulda asked him to define that huh?) He said that when they get down to recording and he sees how the groove is going then he'll decide. It's really, really cool how his mind works. He does not try to peg anything in the future and instead chooses to live in the moment; it's part of his overall philosophy and carries into his craft. He said that what feels right at the time is what's going on the record (and that's why he held back just a touch on committing to KH and even to the album title.) I admire how his mind works. About that time, as I recall, FireFly ran up and grabbed JJ to come and dance. Considering there were 3 other women there cajoling him too, he had no choice. So it's their fault I ain't got no more info for y'all. |

I think King Hummingbird would be a fine title track __________________ "If you've never seen us before, don't be bashful - sing along from start to finish........and dance & feel good.....there's enough shit in the world, let it all out...........Brighter Daaaaays...." |

I've always said and would bet on The Hurricane being the title track, but as always, could be wrong. __________________ "I Finally Understand, The Good Lord Can't Be Understood"
