Brushfire Stankgrass.    Its bluegrass based music with a  dash of reggae and dub to some parts.  They are from asheville nc.

I really like it.
the new album is called for the salamanders.

Fantastic suggestioin FireFly!! Thank ya kindly.

I hear ya too,  so sad there's only like 8 hours of programming every week here on my side of Detroit for folks like us to even bother checking in with for "music" any more. And I'm talking public radio!! Forget the commercial side all together for myself. And to think... Detroit's always had such a strong radio market.... **cough cough mmmbooolshit!**

OMG I'm gonna rant... Better take my meds.

Thx again Ute! A donation will certainly be in order.

Dave Brubeck Quartet, Take 5

Sorry for the neanderthal link cut-n-paste, but well worth it.

And Firefly, I agree - the millionaire music scene is just deplorable. But what the hell, just makes places like mofrofans.com all that more special.

Lately, if I'm not listening to Mofro or Kings of Leon, then that means I'm listening to my husband's music, which is either John 5, Unknown Hinson, or Al Di Meola.  I have to say of the three, Al Di Meola is my favorite.  His album "Elegant Gypsy" is AWESOME.  Best guitar player out there!

I've always thought of this group as the hip hop counterpart of mofro.

Cunninlynguists - Oneirology.  Best hip hop album I've ever heard.

I am Not a hip hop fan but the owner of a local club asked me to photograph a show on March 12, 2011 featuring Astronautalis.

He did a few freestyle songs where he asked the audience to yell out words or phrases which he then used as the basis of the song.     Well, I'm still not a hip hop fan but Astronautalis was freakin' amazing.

Yea different strokes...I can see why most people would not like hip hop.  Everybody has those genre's that they just can't stand.  Mine is modern country.  Throw on some Toby Keith or Gretchen Wilson singing about (in frtkyplystz words "badonkadonks") and I'm about ready to rip my ears off.  To be honest I don't like alot of hip hop.  99.9999865849567940 % of the hip hop I listen to nowadays comes from Cunninlynguists and Tonedeff...but I do try to keep an open mind and give everything a fair listen.

The thing about Cunninlynguists though is they're not your typical "rap" group.  Their producer makes such amazing music that I find myself listening to the instrumentals without the lyrics just as much as the regular albums.

For example...my fiance hates rap...I put this instrumental on

and I look over and notice her head bobbin lmao.

Listening to Mumford & Sons a lot lately. It's a pretty darn good album for what it is, as my favorite song at any given time is whichever one I happen to be listening to at that moment.
