Hey Everybody, if you're in the Philly, Camden area on Sunday,  September 4th, Conrad Oberg (you may have seen him sitting in with JJ and the boys on occassion) will be performing backed by the multi-Grammy winning rhythm section of Todd Smallie (Mofro, Derek Trucks), and Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi).   The Blind Boys of Alabama are also on the bill, along with Big Sam's Funky Nation, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and others.   Oh yeah, did I mention the show is FREE!!!  http://www.conradoberg.com

We were SO lucky to catch both Todd and Yonrico in a three day break from touring, and they graciously agreed to perform with Conrad at this show.  Conrad feels like he's the luckiest kid in the world right now. It should be epic!

Oh, I'm going! I just hope I'm finished bedazzling my kevlar bodysuit in time for the show. I can't sacrifice fashion for safety, you know?

Ha!  I know Camden has a bit of an image,  but I swear, we did this show last year with Dumpstaphunk, Big Sam's, Marcia Ball, The Radiators etc. and it was a gorgeous grass amphitheater venue on the river with the downtown Philly skyline in the background behind the stage.  Live Nation did the stage and lighting, it was all first rate.   That being said, anyone sporting kevlar AND bedazzling is a friend of mine, so please find us and say Hi!!

Clay, Camden is one scary ass town! It's right across the river from Philadelphia, but it is like venturing into an alternate universe! Imagine Mad Max but worse!
The only reason I ever go over there is they have two fanstatic water front venues, Wiggins Park (where this event will be) and the Susquehanna Amphitheatre.
The last time I went over there, my sister and I had to park about 3 blocks from the Amphitheatre because the lots were full. A police officer saw us walking towards the venue and personally escorted us to perimeter of the venue's parking area!
I will say this though, the areas immediately around the venues are well lit,  safe and have a HEAVY police presence....it's just that if you wander a block or two beyond the venues, it becomes very unsettling.

But like I said ,the venues and the areas around them are safe.....so EVERYONE who can, should hop, skip & jump across the river to catch this show!

Yep, the Camden Backyard BBQ is a festival in Camden, which just might happen to be the town with the highest crime rate in America....that being said, the venue last year was beautiful, very safe, lots of nice people, and Conrad said that if anyone gets really scared they can stand behind him.  He's from Jacksonville,  Florida,  fears NO man, and swings a MEAN white cane!!

Oh Man - I did not see this until tonight !  Would have been cool to check out.  We have only been to the venue once, about 5 years ago, for Neil Young and Lucinda.  It is a really sketchy area to get to.  I kept telling rfr, don't stop for any reason!!  That being said the outdoor ampitheatre was great.  We unfortunately have not made it back, I believe this is the same area where WXPN holds their 3 day summer fest every July.  Once again, unfortunately the timing of that often conflicts with our summer vacation.

Did you go giggles?  How was it?

Here's a video from the show if anyone's interested.  Conrad had a great time playing with Yonrico and Todd!  The audience was trying to get Conrad to play another song at the end of his set, but the promoter already let him go 15 minutes over.  The trip was a great success.  Skipperdome, October 22nd !!

I went over for part of the event but got an emergent call from my sister begging me to go give her cat it's insulin shot! My hippy, dippy sister took a day trip and wasn't going to make it home in time to give her ferocious feline it's shot, so being the good sister I am, I went and subjected myself to the torture of corralling a spitting, hissing cat to draw it's blood for a blood sugar reading and give it a shot of insulin. I think I was actually safer in Camden.....no joke!
