Thanks for posting this uhollis to let everyone know.  The 'Godfather of Rhythm and Blues' passed away at the age of 90 today.

For those who are new to the board or don't know the significance of this in terms of Mofro, they are as follows:

There are many versions of the Stagger Lee song, but the one that JJ sings/covers is the Snatch and the Poontangs version, which is a band headed by Johnny Otis.  In fact, it was called Johnny Otis Presents:Snatch and the Poontangs and a combined album of his to create an 'Adults Only' album.

The music for the song Ho Cake comes from a song off that album, 'Big John Jeeter'.  If you haven't heard that song before, check it out and you'll hear the similarities to Ho Cake.  Word to the wise though, it is not about food, nor is it for the faint of heart.  Any of the songs on that album for that matter.  When they say 'Adults Only', they ain't joking.

RIP Johnny Otis, glad that you were able to give us 90 years of great music, you will be missed.

I have a feeling that Stagger Lee might make an appearance on the setlist tonight in Milwaukee.  Ho Cake as well...

He tells a story, of all the glory
He leads a way, he leads me on
To my Home In The Sky....  To my Home In The Sky
There's no reason why, 'cause Heaven knows

I'm that moment when you finally let go...

I never got the chance to see Johnny Otis play but I was lucky enough to catch his son (Shuggie Otis) at the 1970 Newport Jazz Festival.

Check out this video of Johnny, son Shuggie, and Roy Buchanan

And nobody could get more out of a Telly with no effects than Roy Buchanan.
