The scheduled opening act JJ Grey & Mofro canceled at the last minute, but the slot was easily filled with local soul-funk group Greyhounds (who are also part of JJ Grey’s backing band normally) and they seemed more than happy to get the chance to kick off the show with a bang. With Galactic’s Stanton Moore sitting in on drums Greyhounds busted out soul-infused funk. Greyhound’s have a powerful sound for such a small group. Much of their large sound comes from Anthony Farrell on keys who has a deep soulful voice that carries the band through pumping jams that combine elements of blues, gritty funk, and deep South R and B.
