I heard him do Stevie Wonder's Living For The City. I don't know how often he did it, but it was my favorite. However, Hoochie Coochie Man, Stagger Lee and WYLF are all pretty cool.

Hmmm.... I'd have to say Everything Good Is Bad, Stagger Lee, and Long Time Man are my faves...
Would love to hear Living For the City, and another one I think would fit wonderfully is Otis' version of A Change Is Gonna Come.
Helix - Who did the original WYLF? I never knew it was a cover..

From a 2008 interview published on Jambands.com:

JJG: In all honesty, Blackwater was meant to sound like Orange Blossoms. In fact, a song like “WYLF” (“What You’re Looking For") [off Orange Blossoms, I wrote that long before Blackwater was recorded. In fact, tried to record that in a Blackwater session. It’s funny, sometimes, to hear people say, I see this new direction with "What You’re Looking For” It ain’t that new brother, I wrote the song in 1993.’ We recorded it on Blackwater with just Dan and we felt like it, not that it didn’t fit, just the take wasn’t right. “What You’re Looking For” is kind of a sister song to "Air” or "Lazy Fo Acre." That mid-tempo, chilled out kind of song.

A half full room? Didn't know that was even possible. Damn. I wonder if it's onthe Archive... I'll have to look.

Thanks for the info, Craven. I knew that EGIB was a cover of some obscure band, but thought WYLF was an original.

Half room hell!!  When I first started seeing the band, I attended several shows that consisted of me and maybe 10 other people!

Sorry I meant Everything Good Is Bad. I knew WYLF was an original, I'm just gettin old and senile.

This is a link to the Skotdee post and torrent that contained some interesting covers.

Really dig his version of Asie Payton's "Take It Back to the Bridge"

And his cover of Sonny Terry's "The Battle" is killer too.

There is a recording on the Archive I believe where JJ says "we are gonna do a Sonny Terry cover." Someone in the audience shouts out "No!". And without missing a beat, JJ says "Well, get the fuck out then." Classic!

Great thread, always like talkin covers. I still wish they would've played Elvis' American Trilogy some more after that DNC party or whatever event that was... Stevie Wonder's misstra know it all had a cool little run in the rotation a few years back. And I really wish they'd bring back Donny Hathaway's everything is everything with the band intros, loved when they used to do that. Man, too many to mention, We did a big thread on the old board years ago with a list of every cover we could think of they'd done, need to do that up. Hell I'd love to hear got my mojo workin again, I thought for a while that was a permanent addition. Also muddy's long distance call was waaay too short lived, only played that one 2 or 3 times I think
