Busy ~ Busy ~ Busy
This time of year, our garden is in full swing, from endless hours of weeding
to harvesting - to processing - and planting.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, but I must say that it consumes
most of my weekends. (ha, just don't look inside at my house)
And the fact that Gregg and I are
building a hoop house for chickens, keeps us busy too. We want to have the
area for the chickens complete before we go on vacation in a couple of weeks and we still have to finish
the wall and door way dividing the hoop house (half for chickens and half for storage, etc) and installing the
200 feet of electric fence, and putting the plastic roof covering and shade cloth - whew! I just hope we can get
it complete, as we are getting chickens when we return.
This past weekend we harvested 200 heads of Early Red Italian Garlic (still have about 100 heads of S & H Silver in the ground)
4 rows of 50 heads!
The heads this year are huge!! They look like elephant garlic they are so big!
Gregg and I gathered them in groups of 6 and staggered the heads, tied them towards the top
and hung them out to dry. Takes 4-5 weeks, so we know what project (aside from getting caught up
on weeding) when we return from vacation ~ giving the garlic their makeovers!!!!
Sunday, we had the kids practice snorkeling with their masks and snorkels, going under for a bit and then
clearing their snorkels upon resurfacing for when we go snorkeling over the coral reefs.
Then it was Gregg onto the Chicken Area and I to the garden. I got the bed we used for the garlic ready for
planting, we are dewin collards and edamames!!! We used our Perkins Private Stock Compost )
I worked the compost into the soil ~ Collards on the left - Edamames on the right
snapped a few close ups of our Daylilies!
Til next time! Have a beautiful week!!
