Has anybody else been able to check out the Tommy Bolin tribute album "Great Gypsy Soul"?
A friend of mine at work dropped me a copy, and I have to say that it is most wonderful! It's actually old tapes of Tommy from recording sessions before he died with current guitarists & vocalists joining in. Some names you might know.... Warren Haynes (helped produce as well as playing), Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, Leland Sklar, Peter Frampton, Prairie Prince, and Glenn Hughes, just to name a few. To hear some of these songs again, and one for the first time (Sugar Shack) reminds me of when I was a kid listening to my uncle's albums with him... guess I started off on the right track musically. Story goes with Sugar Shack that it was something that Tommy and Glenn Hughes had been working on, but hadn't put any lyrics or vocal melody to. Glenn finished it and did the vocals on it. New music after almost 40 years.... All in all it is definitely worth checking out. You can hear Warren and Derek's playing in there without taking over. It's definitely a Bolin album, but with friends and people who admire him playing along. And if you haven't heard Tommy Bolin... well, let's just say he is one of the truly great musicians who left us way way way too early. __________________ The only voice that speaks for me speaks from this clay
