So sad to hear that the end is near for Levon, I hope his final journey is a peaceful one!  So much great music, thanks Levon!!!

Saw Levon last fall, he was pretty frail but he still got it done. His band was tight and he sounded great, but with a very reduced vocal load. He still played the drums well. His contribution was huge, he will be missed.

Very, very sad news.  One of my all-time favorites.  Absolutely loved his tempo and phrasing.  Just a perfect touch of lazy, which I really like in JJG&M songs like Tragic.

Here's one of the many reports:

Wilco & the Levon Helm band from last year:

One of my favorite covers of "that other guy":

CBS Sunday Morning feature from 4 or 5 years ago:

Here's a clip of Ringo Starr's first All-Starr band, in 1989, with Billy Preston, Dr. John, Joe Walsh, Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Garth Hudson from the band, and Nils Lofgren and Clarence Clemons from the E Street Band.  Got to see the Toronto stop on this tour.  What an absolutely astounding collection of talent.  Sadly, several of them have passed:

And from The Last Waltz, with Emmylou Harris:

Saw the Levon Helm band at JazzFest 2 years ago. It was an amazing show! Loved it! So glad I was able to see them. I hate to hear this sad news. Fucking cancer sucks.
