This is JJ's fourth visit, in 7 years, to this festival in my hometown. They book him every second year. Last night he opened for Galactic. Played approx 1.5 hours. After he jumped in with Galactic for a bit. It was a great show, but I didn't stay for the whole Galactic show. I don't think he has sorted out the stage configuration yet. It was kinda odd having Kalb off to the side, facing cross stage. Kalb's kit much bigger than AC's. I thought the front-of-house sound was too loud last night. Lots of distortion, however the mix for Galactic was great.

I thought I had a backstage visit lined up but that fell through. I'm kinda glad because I was pretty loaded by the end of JJ's set.

Today he did a radio interview and played a couple of tunes. I got to see that, it was amazing. He was interviewed by a local artist, Ross Neilson. Great interview, focused a lot on the creative process. JJ commented at the end that it was the best interview that he has ever done. I don't know if he was just being nice or he really meant it.

I printed out his Whitehouse Indians Little League picture. I got him to sign it after the interview. He got a great laugh out of me bringing it. He's playing again tonight. This time as the headliner. I tried to get him to put Blackwater on the setlist, he said with the new drummer, that it is tough adding things that they haven't practiced with Kalb. However, at soundcheck he would try to work on it.

They are off to Boise tomorrow then San Diego.

Crisper sound last night. Lots of the new material. JJ's vocals were in top form. While off stage before the encore, the fans started singing the chorus from Air. So when they came back out JJ agreed to do it, but explained that Kalb didn't know it. He guided him through it. Really lively set but none of the epic stuff like, Brighter Days, Lochloosa or Sun Is Shining Down. Once Kalb gets the material down, maybe we will get more of the older material back in.
