The venue, Kulturarena Jena, was a stage and arena style seats built in front of the TheaterHaus Jena (theater house). A lot of events happen there during summer time - one of them being the JJ Grey and Mofro concert.

The venue had arena style seats and some seats on the left and the right side of the stage and also lots of space to stand in front of it.

The weather was quite cold and a chilly wind was blowing.
Right before the concert started, a dark cloud was hanging above the arena - everywhere around almost blue sky...  but fortunately it left only a couple of raindrops on the ground and then moved away.

The concert was almost sold out and a good crowd was sitting and standing in the arena awaiting the first note.

There was no supporting act and JJ Grey and Mofro entered the stage right on time.

JJ Grey mentioned during the concert that this was their first time to play a concert in East-Germany and it won't be the last. :-)

They were playing one song after the other with only little time inbetween. Sometimes you almost had to hurry to clap your hands before the new song started.

Ho Cake was the song, where all played their solo part - JJ even played the organ for a couple of minutes.

During the last song, Ol Glory, JJ took off his shoes.

After the concert JJ threw something (his plectrum ?) into the audience and then took his shoes and joked to throw them also, but then took them with him off the stage.

During the concert JJ also proved his German knowledge saying: Ein Bier, bitte ! (One beer, please !) and: Prost !
Glad, he won't die of thirst in Germany...  [wink]

The band had two new members - Terence Higgins on drums and Marcus Parsley on additional trumpet.
There was no sax at all.

Due to the changes the band sounded a little bit different, but if you didn't knew the old line up, you wouldn't have missed a thing.
The two trumpets were doing a great job playing with the band and also solo.

But I still miss the great sax sound of Art Edmaiston.
(The two trumpets  a n d  Art on sax would be fantastic...  *dreaming*)
And I was always wondering how AC got that much sound out of almost no equipment.
