No roll call here folks. Just me going from mofrofans.com. I've promoted this gig as much as I can. I've talked a bunch of people into going, as well as giving out tickets myself. Their first date after a 10 day rest. JJ should be in good voice and hopefully Dennis is back in. I will keep y'all posted.

Heavy thunderstorms ripped through the city starting about an hour before the show and continued all night. The show was delayed a half hour but that didn't deter anyone. I'd say about a thousand witnesses were in attendance. World Party opened and kinda started out slow, a little folky. At first I didn't think they were a great choice, but by the end of their hour long set, they were rockin it pretty good. Great musicians.

The boys hit the stage about 30 minutes later. I was relieved to see Dennis was back. He's lost some weight but seemed excited to be at it again. JJ was wearing, wait for it .............. polyester shirt and pants. Yellow shirt and brown pants. I'm still shaking my head on that. I think they sent him to Cox's for a Seersucker suit and he went to Sear's.[rofl] But I digress.

Hide and Seek was first up, then Your Lady, which got the sing-a-long started. JJ was amazed at the crowd energy this early in the show. I have to admit that it was pretty electric for a Fredericton crowd. You could tell the band was feeding off it. In particular Art, AC, Trube and JJ, they seemed to be pumped by what was transpiring. Five songs in JJ pulled out Brighter Days and converted any remaining non-believers. After that, they rocked it out hard the rest of the night. Actually after seeing the changes to the setlist, which I will type below, I know what went through JJ's head. He saw that this was a high energy party crowd, so he replaced the slow stuff with high energy tunes.

Is it just me, but I'm kinda surprised that Harp and Drums is not showing up in shows, seeing as it has been released on This River. I was hoping he'd close with it as a long encore jam, but it wasn't to be. The encore consisted of the always popular and well received Orange Blossoms and On Fire.

All-and-all the best show that I've ever seen them do here. The energy level was through the roof. The 10 days rest didn't hurt. JJ truly loves this place and it shows whenever he plays here.

Tonight I'm going to David Wilcox or Avett Brothers, haven't decided yet.

Setlist:

Hide & Seek
Your Lady
A Woman
99 Shades
Brighter Days
Country Ghetto
Somebody Else
GA Warhorse
Lochloosa was removed
Sweetest Thing was removed
War was inserted
Tame A Wild One
Slow Hot Sweaty
Everything Good
Ho Cake
--------------------
This River was removed
Orange Blossoms
On Fire was added

Helix, thanks for posting!  Sounds like a great show!

As for the polyester, perhaps he was trying not to draw suspicion crossing the border by looking too rock-starish???  Then again, you can take the boy out of Sears, but you can't take Sears out of the boy.

Nice to see Dennis is back and seemingly doing well.

As for Harp & Drums, and Junior as well, I think those are the logical exclusions when the sets run less than 2 hours, which has pretty much been the case during festival season, where the sets have typically been +/- 90 minutes.  With Ho Cake and On Fire late in the sets, that probably makes sense.  At this point, with such a rich catalog, they would have to play three hours or more every night to play everything that everyone wants to hear.  Which wouldn't be such a bad thing, excepting for wearing everybody out, and shredding JJ's to pizza cheese.

I didn't take this picture, but it's about 3/4 back in the venue. I'd say the show was at least 2 hours in length. A lot of songs were stretched out due to audience back and forth with JJ.

Revised attendance figure for last night,  2200.   I guess when you're up front and gettin' your groove on, you don't realize how many people are behind you!
