I asked JJ "I know Toots is a legend and one of your heroes but have you ever considered letting Farrell sing his parts of Sweetest Thing?" My selling point was that the studio version had two distinct voices and I thought it would be cool to hear it live with two voices. He said " I've never thought about it." What do YOU think?

It was the third time in line. Then a girl, who I first met 5 minutes before, grabbed my arm and pushed me out of the way, while saying "hey, your times up". To which a just laughed and then proceeded to go talk to Todd.

I might agree with you, MF1.  I love Farrell's voice but I'm not sure if it is the right voice for that part.  I was wondering why AC wasn't doing it.

I figured I might get beat up on this one DAB so I'm glad somebody agreed with me! Yessir AC can sing too. Unless you live in Cent Fla most people haven't had a chance to hear AC sing lead. Unlike the Greyhounds he doesn't have any widespread CD's (just a couple local made ones) where you can hear him. I'm not sure whether I'd like him singing on SW either tho. I guess I'm just used to hearing JJ do it all the thru. It's a very intriguing question though Helix, interesting dialogue for sure!!

I suspect that JJ probably feels the song is pretty sacred and that Toots, being one of his heroes, can't be replaced. So that being said, it would surprise me that he would consider it. On the other hand, given that Farrell and AC are both good on vocals, I'm surprised he hasn't given them more harmony opportunities or played off them in some other way.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but figured I would mention that AC is a killer Sax player as well.  And he can play the ivory's quite well too.  Crazy that the last thing he plays, or likes to play for that matter, is what he plays for Mofro, the drums.  Of all the people in the band, AC has the most musical talent and background.  The style of music that he likes and plays is quite a bit different then what the others play, but fitting for his personality.  He loves to play, that's for sure.  If he could spend every waking moment playing music, I'm sure he probably would...

It's great that AC and Farrell singing back up. For a good while there there were no back ups. They add a lot of richness. I wouldn't mind seeing/hearing more. In my opinion, George Sluppick was a great back up singer. He's not someone like Farrell or AC that can/does also sing lead in their own bands. But he's a great back up vocalist. My 2 cents anyways.

With the choruses of JJ's songs being so catchy and the amount a sing-a-longs that he encourages, I'm surprised that there are not more harmonies being sung by AC and Farrell as well as sections where he could vocally play off them. He certainly doesn't hesitate to play off everyone with the harp. But I agree that he is using them more than he has in the past. Baby steps I guess.

Another thing that would be interesting live, would be if he got a bunch of them to switch instruments for a number. With the amount of multi-talented guys he has, including himself, I think it would be a lot of fun to see.

I share your surprise helix. Hopefully with time. I think it just seems to "fit".

Switching instruments is great. Trombone Shorty does that in his encore and it's so flipping cool. Vid below: Shorty on drums, guitar player is playing sax, bass player and percussionist are playing trumpet and trombone (they lack a little polish but all things considered...), sax player playing percussion, other sax player playing bass, and drummer playing guitar. It's very cool to watch a whole show of these guys kicking ass and all of a sudden switch to all new instruments. Makes you realize how talented they all are. On top of all that I don't think there's a guy on stage over 30.
