Summer is getting better every day. Tonight,Cleveland, August 16th(Jillys birthday) and August 18th Norwich. Big smile....feeling like a kid on Christmas. Put the headphones on last night for 2 hours and watched JJGrey&Mofro on Youtube. I thank you again for this site Clay, for your time and effort and LOVE of this music. M&J

Beautiful World - Live version

My fiancée and I are big fans of JJ Grey and Mofro and we are looking to see if we can get a soundboard recording of the song Beautiful World. We are getting married on June 16th and we want this to be the song played for our first dance. I do have the studio version of the song but we prefer the live version because the studio version does not include the horn section. One of our more memorable date nights included a JJ Grey & Mofro concert in Portland, Maine. I also proposed to my fiancée on the night of one of their last concerts here in Portland. The band and their music hold a special place in our lives and so it would be awesome to have a live version of Beautiful World to play at our wedding and so I am hopeful someone might have a killer live/soundboard version of the song that they can share...

I think this artist should jam with JJ

This is Robert Bradley an old school kind of R&B, blues guy who I have listened to for years. I think he reminds me of Willie Green a tad as well as Toots Hibbert. I think he and JJ should do a song. The second video starts with a short interview and seems to me he and JJ have the same outlook on music and life.

Couple more stops out West have been added. I have my fingers crossed for Arizona, but the venue our boys have played at the last couple of times closed down last month so it's not looking good, just my luck... Anyways, another Colorado show added, Knitting Factory in Idaho and a few more.

Lochloosa, Yearling, & Everybody's

We started & ended our early April spring break adventure in true Mofro style. On our way to, wait for it, Disney, we had to soak up some real Florida! Real Florida to me is defined as JJ Grey. Needless to say, we made an outta the way pitstop at Lochloosa Harbor. Although we didn't get to spend as much time here as we wished, it was still magical to stand on the banks of Lochloosa Lake and hear JJ in our minds. It really was truly an unforgettable experience to behold the lake behind the song. The guy who owned the store knew JJ & we talked to him for a bit. It was very sad to see how low the lake was, and just how true the lyrics are. Even in the midst of sadness, there was hope in the fishermen's tales & the beauty of the place. As our bellies growled, we knew we had to make The Yearling restaurant our next stop. This place is not to be missed if you're ever in the area. The food was outstanding to say the least. Between my husband, son, & myself, we had quail, alligator, frog legs, and grouper. If you don't know The Yearling, it is my understanding that this is one of JJ's favorite restaurants, and after eating there, we completely understand why. As soon as we walked in the door, our ears were equally treated as our bellies were. To our surprise and delight, Willie Green was playing a one man acoustic show. WOW! What a gem! My son had his picture made with him and we were just amazed at his raw talent. What better way to spend a pitstop for lunch. The waitresses knew JJ, too, and we spent some time discussing our love of the boys. There was a framed Lochloosa CD release poster on the wall. The waitress told us they did have an autographed copy, but the owner actually caught someone trying to steal the poster right off the wall!! He then removed the poster and took it home and replaced it with the one that's there now. The Yearling is named after the book written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who also wrote a book called Cross Creek, which is where The Yearling is located, and adjacent to Lochloosa. This place is steeped with a rich history, and an unmistakable vibe of JJ. I could have stayed here forever. She also wrote a book that the movie Gal Youngin was based on. They had original movie posters in the The Yearling for sale that came straight outta Ms. Rawlings attic. Of course, I bought one, and would LOVE to get JJ to sign it. Much to our dismay, we had to leave. Disney awaited us...sigh. After 4 days of amusement park torture, we decided we'd had enough of Florida's commercialism, and cut our Orlando itinerary short, and headed to Daytona Beach, then St. Augustine. To end our vacation, we had to stop by Everybody's restaurant near Whitehouse, FL. We ate there last year on our trec from Panama City to Savannah, and knew we had to make another pitstop here. This is the absolute best home cooked food you can get anywhere besides your granny's house. We sat at the same table and had the same waitress.

I hope I haven't bored you all to tears. I just had to share our journey to the places that our boys sing so fondly of. Florida, we knew you were out there hiding from us, you were just a little hard to find (edited lyrics from Florida)!!!

Chatom AL show review... They had to play an unplugged show. Unbelievable show!

Well, we sure were in for a treat guys. JJ and Mofro were suppose to be playing outside Saturday for a festival in Chatom Alabama. The festival started at 11:00 and their set time was at 7:30. The weather was horrible with tornado warnings out and pouring down rain. I was worried that the festival would be canceled but they moved it inside the chamber of commerce building. They had tables set up and was somewhat an awkward wedding reception feel. Maximum capacity was 300 and my brother his friends and I got a table up front hoping they would stick around and play. The band was so nice to stick around and play for the few of us there while some other artists left JJ stuck around. This was the best part..... They had to play like an acoustic unplugged show because the sound in the building would have been way too loud. JJ didn't pick up his electric guitar all night, straight acoustic. It was unreal. In his version of Lochloosa instead of his guitar solo he played his harmonica, that is how softly they had to play. Also the best version of Ho Cake I have ever heard. He started it out with about a short version of Harp and Drums leading into Ho Cake. Wailing on the harp all night. After the show my brother and I spent some quality time with AC on the bus and talked to JJ for a minute. My brother was floored with it being his first show and all getting to meet them, he has the love for them we do. They are so down to earth, I couldn't meet em enough times to satisfy me. Here is the set list, not in order but I'll see how close I can come. Short show but one I never thought was possible.

Today is the day!!!! even though the forecast from here to Chatty and back for the next 24 hours is rain rain rain, I am going to have an unbelievable time today & tonight!! Heading out about noon and shall return sometime tomarrie!!

Thick Cut Bacon perfectly rendered in the oven ~ Topped with a mixture melted Ghiradella Milk Chocolate and Scharffen 62% Cacao, sprinkled on Toasted Sliced Almonds and Sea Salt.

I had Sawyer to do a taste test ~ I asked him if it was a one or two thumbs up .......... his reply: I wish I had ten thumbs!!! I had to sample myself ~ what a flavor explosiion on so many levels: sweet, salty, crunchie, creamy ............ I hope they enjoy!

as I sit here on this Friday evening, thinking of awl the folks at HOB and getting quite excited for my show on Sunday in Chattanooga .... I decided to relive one of my favorite songs at one of my favorite shows with some of my, yes, favorite folks, the OX's. This song is just absolutely amazing on so many levels. Just to see and experience the joy felt and seen on JJ's face makes me just want to strive harder to live in the moment!
